what struck me was the matter of different twists of fate (coincidences or murphy's law perhaps) that happened between several characters (relena and heero's look-a-like (or could have been heero himself), wufei and sally, relena and zechs, noin and treize, nanashi and trowa barton (with the latter showing the former mariemeia's picture), quatre and the maganac corps). and some of the events that took place in GW were better explained at the end of each pilot's story. the ideas each guys espoused were brought to light by the backstories. The first two collected tankobon volumes. reading the histories of each pilot (why heero and trowa acted the way they did, how duo got his name and his braid, wufei's marital status) helped me gain ideas of the characters' actions in the anime. The novel, written by Gundam Wing head writer Katsuyuki Sumisawa, began serialization in Gundam Ace in August 2010.
